Support Service for Rural People
Objectives
To assist rural persons and their families confronting change in the East Coast region of New Zealand from Cape Palliser to East Cape to more effectively meet adverse events which arise in their lives, and for the achievement of that object:
- To create, implement and operate services to assist rural persons with rehabilitation, debt facilitating and compromising with creditors.
- To provide such services as are necessary to counsel, advise and assist rural persons in adverse events - financial, climatic, or otherwise.
- Identify and liases with other local support group resources for the achievement of such objects.
- Promote the objects of the Trust to appropriate groups and authorities.
- Carry out any specific assistance programmes in communities with or on behalf of other agencies but consistent with the above objectives.
In the great majority of cases these objectives will be met by helping primary producers, or other rural people and their financiers resolve debt problems. The interaction and co-operation with financiers recognises the fact that the relationships between the farmer and fincancier is a key factor in both the development and resolution of debt problems. Such resolution also invariably involves working with other professional people servicing rural needs.
It is anticipated that this work will create a wider range of options for farmers with high debt and the Trust will take the initiative in promoting any ideas for improving New Zealand's farming industry whicj grow out of its work.
